Abolish the party system
Let’s be honest: politics suck. And unfortunately, in our current system, politics and policies are inseparable. Our American values of individualism and innovation are stifled by the two-party system. It is no easy feat to throw in a third party, so I propose something a bit different: remove the first two.
An independent election system would respect every individual’s beliefs and ideas. We have the ability to eliminate politics simply by creating three independent tickets for every election. Anyone who can constitutionally run for office should be able to become a candidate in a few clicks. Individuals competing would then run their own campaign and create a reasonably-sized political and personal profile that could be accessed on any device with an internet connection. Every voter would cast their vote for one candidate, and the three with the most votes would be able to run on an independent ticket. The Republican and Democratic parties would not be able to do anything more than endorse a candidate. In fact, those two bickering parties would end up powerless, allowing people to simply identify themselves as conservative, liberal or other.
Beliefs and ideas matter. Abolishing the party system would abolish politics as we know it. Let’s put the power of the hands into the individual and force Americans to think beyond labels.
